Presenting the WoW Roleplay Gear Transmogrification Forum

After more than two years of posting articles, and the thousands of comments posted in response to them by you, our site visitors, we decided it was about time that we released a dedicated forum for transmogrification and roleplay gear in WoW.

Commenting on a post is a quick and effective way of getting a point across about a specific outfit, but it’s not necessarily an ideal format for individuals seeking advice or suggestions on their own outfits. The forum offers a way for our visitors to share their outfits, suggestions and opinions with one another, and to seek advice from a broader audience, rather than having their comments tucked away on a specific website article. It’s also a better medium for discussing the weekly WoW Factor events.

Registration is quick and easy, with users being able to activate their own accounts without need for administrator approval. Once you’ve registered you can get to posting straight away.

Here are some of our forum features:
        – Personal user galleries, allowing everybody to upload pictures of their own outfits to share with
          the community.
        – Transmogrification sections including each armor type and weaponry.
        – Additional sections for roleplay outfits, WoW Factor events, gold making and more.
        – Mouse-over Wowhead tooltips, to make item discussion easier, just like those on our main
          website.

If it sounds tempting to you, head on over to the forum and check it out!

If you have any questions about the forum, you can check out the Forum Info section or the FAQ, or post your question here.

Almost six months ago, WoW Roleplay Gear teamed up with Keelhaul of Disenchanting Azeroth to arrange a transmogrification competition with gold prizes, an event which we called Faction Five, as five players from each faction would win a top prize. The destination was Tichondrius US. Half a year and twenty-one events later, the WoW Factor will be returning to Tichondrius Alliance to see what more the realm has got to show off. The event structure has changed quite a bit since the first show, but the huge prize fund is still guaranteed!

Whilst the original event was sponsored out of Keelhaul’s pocket, this time around a few local players have banded together to provide the prize package. The starting-fund was sponsored by Celerity, a moderator on Elvine’s livestream, and Coachamerica, the guild master of We Run The Auction House. The two of them pledged 50,000 gold each, and were matched soon after by Bating and his guild, Best Player US, with another 50k. That brings the grand total for the event to 150,000 gold!

This week’s guest judge is Draynee, creator of transmog-blog Pretty Fly for a Draenei. Draynee is no stranger to return events herself, having been a top winner in two previous WoW Factor events on Proudmoore US.

Thanks to the sponsors and to Draynee, we look forward to teaming up with you all!

If you’ve not yet seen a WoW Factor show and would like to know what to expect, you can read more about the project on our WoW Factor page.

We hope to see you there!

WoW Factor US-Fizzcrank Alliance Follow-up

We’ve seen world records smashed at the Olympics these past few days, so it’s quite appropriate that the most recent WoW Factor show also reached new heights.

We arrived on Fizzcrank some five hours before the event was due to begin, unsure of exactly how large the prize fund would be for the night. We had firm confirmation for 170,000 gold and speculation of numbers as high as 300,000, but we couldn’t be entirely sure until we’d had contact with all of the many guilds and individuals who had offered donations via the Fizzcrank forums. It took a while for Elvine to gather up all of the prizes, as so many different parties were contributing, but Fizzcrank folk are good at keeping to their word – everybody who offered prizes delivered something. As it turned out, our initial prize estimates were way off the mark.

A final prize tally shortly before the event revealed that the combined efforts of Fizzcrank has yielded a total prize fund of 351,000 gold, a new WoW Factor record for a single-faction event! One might think that beating the previous prize-high by more than 50,000 was enough, but the Fizzcrank players also added two mounts and seven pets to the mix, truly an impressive prize package.

Accompanying us in the challenge of handing out this Fizzcrank fortune was Kamalia of Kamalia et alia, a blogger with a fine eye for fine gear, having been writing about armor in WoW long before transmogrification was announced. Kamalia wrote a post about her experiences of the event, the link for which you can find below, alongside the livestream recording of the judging process, and our Fizzcrank Facebook gallery:

Event Announcement Post

It was Skylä who first brought our attention to Fizzcrank, as she and her guild offered a substantial prize fund to get a WoW Factor event going. After contacting us to schedule the event, Skylä posted on the Fizzcrank forums which really got the interest rolling in. By the end, there were twelve different sources combining to form the final prize total.

The sponsoring parties were as follows:
The Haunted – 100,000g + a Mekgineer’s Chopper
Skylä, GM of The Haunted – A Blizzard Store pet of the winner’s choice
Inappropriate – 50,000g
Veritas et Aequitas – 50,000g + a Guardian Cub
Nalbeer – 31,500g
Kuching – 30,000g
Blackfox Alliance – 25,000g + a Vial of the Sands + 4 pets
Censorship is Cancer – 20,000g
Exodus – 20,000g
Catalyst – 10,000g
Reign of Glory – 10,000g
Bonquesho – 4,500g + Spring Rabbit’s Foot
Total: 351,000g, 2 mounts, 7 pets

Thanks for Skylä for her efforts to bring us to Fizzcrank, and to all of the sponsors for putting together such a generous prize fund! Some of the sponsors can be seen lined up in the picture below.

Competition Outline

The Fizzcrank event was divided into three rounds, the first being the so-called ‘Random Round’, where we awarded multiple prizes of various sizes. In the second round, judges selected ten characters to receive a larger gold prize, and then selected two among those ten to win the grand prizes in the third round. A number of pets were also given out during the course of the event.

As with our last event, Cho’gall, the prize fund for Fizzcrank US has been pooled together thanks to the generosity of multiple guilds and individuals. The sponsorship drive was led by Skylä, who contacted us to arrange the event, advertised it, and started the donations with an array of prizes both from her guild, The Haunted, and out of her own pocket.

Our guest judge this week is long-term blogger, Kamalia of Kamalia et alia, who has been writing about outfits in WoW, among other things, since long before transmogrification was announced. We’re very much looking forward to having her join us!

The prize total is not yet confirmed, so the prize categories above are subject to change, but at present the sponsors and their respective prize contributions are as follows:

  • The Haunted guild – 100,000g + Mekgineer’s Chopper
  • Skylä – A Blizzard Store Pet
  • Kuching – 30,000g
  • Exodus guild – 20,000g
  • Censorship is Cancer guild – 20,000g

There are also a few would-be sponsors who have previously offered prize gold, but have not yet fully confirmed their donations. They will be added to the list as soon as confirmation has been received.

Thanks to all who are sponsoring!

If you’ve not yet seen a WoW Factor show and would like to know what to expect, you can read more about the project on our WoW Factor page.

We hope to see you there!

Update (11/08/12): The prize fund has been upped to 351,000 gold. Full details of the sponsors will be included in our follow-up article.

WoW Factor US-Cho’gall Horde Follow-up

The WoW Factor spiced things up this week, with a new venue for our 20th event!

Horde sponsorships have been quite a rarity compared to Alliance events, 15 to 4 in favour of the Alliance infact, so we were very excited when a group of players from Cho’gall US Horde contacted us with a very generous prize package. For this event, the 20th under the WoW Factor banner, we decided to make things a little more interesting by moving the event to Silvermoon, rather than our usual Horde venue, gathering around Garrosh in Orgrimmar. The Sunfury Spire, aka Lor’themar Theron’s throne room, is considerably larger than Garrosh’s hangout, and the red carpet leading to the room was just begging for a fashion show!

Joining us in the judging this week was Caylena, a WoW Factor regular and master-mogger from Deathwing US. The four of us knew that we’d be in for a busy event thanks to the sponsors advertising well in advance, but as the red carpet filled up before we’d even begun, it became obvious that the move to a larger venue was a good plan. Even with the increased space, a tight circle of participants wrapped all the way around the room and dozens more ran about in the centre alongside the judges.

You can follow along with the judging process on Elvine’s TwitchTV stream, and there are plenty of pictures of participants on Facebook. Check out the links below:

Event Announcement Post

The original drive to bring The WoW Factor to Cho’gall was led by Killgodsheep, who started up a forum thread rallying the realm to sponsor an event. Shortly afterwards, Vain from ePeen Gaming guild, Samarrah and Aneese, took it upon themselves to publicise the event and organise the sponsorship. The result was a prize package 150k gold, a Vial of the Sands and a Mechano-Hog mount, a Guardian Cub pet and many more BoE items. Aneese even bumped the prize gold part way through the event, to bring us to a grand total of 192,000 gold!

The sponsoring individuals were as follows:
ePeen Gaming members (pictured below) – Anneris, Bompabompbum, Iandis, Ulairi, Vain, the guild bank and a couple of anonymous donators.
Individual sponsors – Aneese, Daisey, Halloween, Løcø and Ovals.

A huge thanks to all who contributed and helped in bringing the WoW Factor to Cho’gall!

Update (28/07/12): The prize fund has been upped to 150,000 gold!

WoW Factor EU-Kargath Alliance Follow-up

The WoW Factor held its first bilingual event this week, having been invited to a German realm, Kargath.

Our journey to Kargath was sponsored by Xaders, a local transmog item seller who contacted us back in May, with the intention of bringing the WoW Factor to a new audience. He generously put forward 100,000 gold and two epic weapons as prizes for us to hand out to the finest outfits on his home realm.

Quality was certainly not in short supply on the night, as several participants arrived in outfit combinations unlike any we’ve seen at previous events. It’s great to see something new, especially nineteen events down the line! The venue, Stormwind Cathedral, was approximately half full when we began, but quickly filled out with a huge array of mog sets for us to check out.

So tough was the competition that we had difficulty choosing between two participants when selecting the final ‘top winner’ of the night. That was until Caylo stepped in and offered us a donation of 10,000g, so that we might have four top prizes as opposed to our usual three. With Caylo’s kind contribution on top of Xaders’ original sponsorship, the prize total reached an impressive 110,000 gold! Thanks to both sponsors for their generosity.

The sponsorship offers brought us to Kargath, but the event wouldn’t have been possible without the help of our guest judge for the week, Xandr, who, despite the similarity in name, was not connected to our sponsor. Xandr is a friend and guildmate of Noelani’s, and a knowledgeable transmogrification enthusiast. He also happens to be German, which enabled us to judge and present the event in both English and the local language of Kargath’s playerbase.

You can follow along with the judging process in both languages, and check out pictures of some of the participants, via the following links.

Event Announcement Post

We very much enjoyed our first bilingual WoW Factor event and greatly appreciate the support that participants and viewers showed as we did our best to cater to our mixed audience. A special thanks goes to Xandr and Xaders for making it possible.

Which language will be next to join the WoW Factor club?

Competition Outline

Our event at Kargath followed the same two-round structure which we have used at many previous WoW Factors. The first round was the so-called ‘Random Round’, where we awarded multiple prizes of various sizes. In the second round, we shortlisted six characters, then narrowed those six down to four overall winners with two runners-up.

Our third EU event, the nineteenth overall, will be quite different from earlier WoW Factors, as for the first time we will be visiting a non-English language realm. Wish us luck!

Sponsorship on Kargath is being provided by Xaders, who first came into contact with us via Elvine’s livestream. He has kindly put forward 100k gold as well as a Blade of Wizardry and a Talon of the Tempest for us to hand out during the event.

The guest judge this week will be Xandr (no relation to Xaders despite the name similarity), a friend of ours from our home realm, Argent Dawn EU. On top of being a knowledgeable transmogrification enthusiast, Xandr also happens to be German, a particular bonus for the Kargath event.

Judging will mostly be in English with some German translation, so don’t worry about the language barrier, we will do our best to accommodate speakers of both languages. If you’re a US player, you can still see WoW Factor events in the EU, either via the livestream or by joining us in-game on a trial account following our guide: Logging In to a Different WoW Region.

If you’ve not yet seen a WoW Factor show and would like to know what to expect, you can read more about the project on our WoW Factor page.

We hope to see you there!

WoW Factor US-Lothar Alliance Follow-up

Lothar US gave the WoW Factor a taste of community spirit this week, as multiple individuals contributed to the prize package!

Evidently our sponsors had done an excellent job of advertising the event, as we arrived at the venue to find it near full a good thirty minutes before the designated start time. Our guest judge for the week, Gloomie, was already there when we arrived, checking out some of the outfits in advance. Gloomie, aka Coffin, was one of the top winners at the WoW Factor event on Stormreaver US Horde in early May.

Sponsorship of the event was an impressive collaborative effort on Lothar, with no less than eleven characters adding gold, pets and mounts to the pile of prizes. Their combined efforts brought the WoW Factor to Lothar, inspired a large number of people to participate or spectate, and provided a gigantic total prize fund of 235,000 gold!

Contributions were as follows:
Mythrius – 75,000, Cirux – 50,000, Keiriana – 35,000, Lavindin – 25,000, Catarisper – 15,000, Evilsanta – 5,000, Arbaris – 3,000, Ragetank – 2,000, and three anonymous sponsors who added a combined total of 25,000 between them.

A special nod goes to Mythrius, Cirux and Arbaris (seen to the right), for their hard work in organising and publicising the event, as well as adding a Vial of the Sands, Mekgineer’s Chopper and various whelpling pets onto the gold prizes.

You can follow along with the judges as we worked our way around the Lothar crowd, and check out pictures of some of the participants, via the following links.

We have a packed prize fund lined up for Lothar this week, courtesy of a handful of sponsors with generous contributions. The grand total in gold comes to a whopping 177k, with a Vial of the Sands and Mekgineer’s Chopper up for grabs too. There will even be a selection of pets and items available, rounding off this impressive prize package.

The prize gold has been donated by the following individuals:
  • Mythrius – 75,000
  • Cirux – 50,000
  • Keiriana – 25,000
  • Ragetank – 2,000
  • Three anonymous sponsors who contributed a total of 25,000 between them

Thanks to all who contributed towards the sponsorship.
