WoW Factor US-Tichondrius Alliance II Follow-up

The WoW Factor returned to its roots this weekend, revisiting the home of the very first event.

It was almost six months ago that WoW Roleplay Gear teamed up with Keelhaul of Disenchanting Azeroth to arrange regular transmogrification events, under the banner of The WoW Factor. For our first event as a team, Keelhaul sponsored 150,000 gold for the Faction Five on US Tichondrius Horde and Alliance, so called as there were five primary winners on each faction. Twenty-one events down the line, a few individuals banded together to set up a prize package to bring the show back to Tichondrius Alliance.

This time around the attendance was substantially higher and Stormwind City Cathedral was packed out within moments of the event starting. There were a few familiar faces amongst the AoE spells and smoke flares which adorned the aisles at the beginning, but none wearing the same outfits as on our first visit.

As has become customary for the WoW Factor events, we were accompanied in our judging by a special guest. This week we were joined by Draynee, a two-time WoW Factor winner from Proudmoore US, and a transmog-blogger. Draynee’s site, Pretty Fly for a Draenei, offers a fantastic selection of transmogrification outfits and screenshots, as well as a post detailing her experiences as a WoW Factor guest judge. You can find the link to her article below, along with Elvine’s livestream recording of the event and a Facebook gallery full of images from Tichondrius:

Event Announcement Post

The sponsorship drive on Tichondrius came primarily from Celerity, also know as Zukum, a moderator on Elvine’s livestream channel. Not only did he provide the bulk of the prize fund, but he was instrumental in arranging the time for the event, advertising on the realm forums, and assisting us throughout the course of the event. He was not alone though, as four other generous individuals contributed to the gold pile, as follows:

Celerity – 125,000g
Coachamerica – 50,000g
Zedura – 1000g
Zavicqt – 1000g
Anonymous – 1000g

All in all, that brought the prize total for the night to 178,000 gold. A big thanks to all of the sponsors!

Competition Outline

The event was divided into two rounds, the first being the so-called ‘Random Round’, where we awarded multiple prizes of various sizes. For the second round, we initially intended to select five outfits to receive prizes as the best of the night. However, due to difficulty selecting the final winner, the fifth top prize was divided between four characters, resulting in four overall winners and four runners-up.

Almost six months ago, WoW Roleplay Gear teamed up with Keelhaul of Disenchanting Azeroth to arrange a transmogrification competition with gold prizes, an event which we called Faction Five, as five players from each faction would win a top prize. The destination was Tichondrius US. Half a year and twenty-one events later, the WoW Factor will be returning to Tichondrius Alliance to see what more the realm has got to show off. The event structure has changed quite a bit since the first show, but the huge prize fund is still guaranteed!

Whilst the original event was sponsored out of Keelhaul’s pocket, this time around a few local players have banded together to provide the prize package. The starting-fund was sponsored by Celerity, a moderator on Elvine’s livestream, and Coachamerica, the guild master of We Run The Auction House. The two of them pledged 50,000 gold each, and were matched soon after by Bating and his guild, Best Player US, with another 50k. That brings the grand total for the event to 150,000 gold!

This week’s guest judge is Draynee, creator of transmog-blog Pretty Fly for a Draenei. Draynee is no stranger to return events herself, having been a top winner in two previous WoW Factor events on Proudmoore US.

Thanks to the sponsors and to Draynee, we look forward to teaming up with you all!

If you’ve not yet seen a WoW Factor show and would like to know what to expect, you can read more about the project on our WoW Factor page.

We hope to see you there!

Faction Five Follow-up

The Faction Five event with Keelhaul on US-Tichondrius has now drawn to a close, so it’s time for a quick re-cap of the event.

Attendance was fantastic on both factions, infact it was the largest Horde turnout to a show yet, and there was a broad array of styles on display. There were so many competitors at the Alliance event that we actually ran over-time (sorry Hordies), but we had to make sure we gave all participants a good look. After a tough four hours of deliberating we were able to select twenty-five semi-finalists from each faction, who won 1000 gold each. Of those fifty, a further nineteen were selected to receive extra gold prizes, including ten top winners, five from each faction – The Faction Five!

Keelhaul will soon be hosting videos of the events at Disenchanting Azeroth, be sure to check them out to see the outfits and hear the commentary. He’s also added some screenshots of the participants on Picasa (we particularly recommend checking out Vavaboom, a fully transmogged miner!).

Congratulations once more to the winners and commiserations to those who didn’t receive a prize, we greatly appreciated seeing every outfit, even if we didn’t select them as finalists.

We had a wonderful time checking out all of the transmogrification sets, although we felt particularly restrained by the limitations of the trial accounts on which we were attending. Both of us would have liked to engage in the activity a lot more, but were only able to communicate with those who whispered us first. It may have seemed that we were silently weaving between the crowd with nothing but the occasional name call for winners, but we were buzzing away on Skype with Keelhaul for the full duration of the event. On that note, we’d like to extend a further thanks to Amperjay and Lantanasham, both of whom were invaluable in assisting us in communicating with the audience. We aim to have a Livestream running on TwitchTV for the next event, so that participants and spectators alike may follow along with our judging process.

Update! Keelhaul has uploaded a video of the Horde event on YouTube:

Ironyca has also written an article on her personal experiences of the Faction Five event, in the post
A Transmog-Party Where Everyone’s Well-dressed – Except Us!

Thanks to all who attended and keep your eyes out for videos, pictures and more to come from the WoWfactor!

The Faction Five: Transmogrification Competition – 2nd March ’12

We’re excited to announce that we’ll be acting as guest judges in a forthcoming transmogrification competition!

The Faction Five, a 150,000 gold giveaway on US-Tichondrius realm, will be hosted by Keelhaul, creator of Disenchanting Azeroth and perhaps better known as “The Mogfather”, and we at WoWRoleplayGear will be helping him to select the winners.

Keelhaul has taken the transmog world by storm, hosting dozens of events on various realms where he has given away well in excess of one million gold, a generous feat which has earned him the attention of PC Gamer and WoW Insider among others. The Tichondrius competition is set to be his largest yet, with seperate arrangements for Horde and Alliance, and 75k gold being split among contestants from each faction.

The Prizes

The contest will follow a slightly different approach to that of previous events, where all attendees were given a small sum of gold. For The Faction Five, Keelhaul, Ironyca and myself (Noelani) will select a total of twenty-five semi-finalists per faction, whose outfits have most impressed us, and will award each of them 1,000 gold on the spot. From each of the Horde and Alliance semi-filnalist groups, we will select five individuals to receive a further 10,000 gold each, as the overall winners of our prize categories, which are as follows:

– Best Overall
– Most Original (Something we’ve not seen before)
– Best Use of a Tier/Dungeon Set
– Most Unique (Something that stands out in the crowd)
– Best Persona (Something that best conveys a profession, a character, an NPC, etc.)

As an extra twist, Keelhaul will also be offering an all-inclusive makeover to one lucky individual whose outfit we deem to be in need of a revamp. Our victim contestant will receive a complete new set of gear from the AH, should they wish, as well as an interview about their transmog transition… yep, it’s ‘What Not to Wear’ in WoW! Bring on the clown suits.

For full info on the event rules, schedule and locations, consult Keelhaul’s thread on the WoW Forums.

Care to join us?

If you’d like to participate, all you need to do is show up in your finest Transmogrification outfit at the designated time on Friday 2nd March. Spectators are also more than welcome!

The Alliance event will begin at 9pm EST in Hall of Explorers, Ironforge, and for the Horde at 10.30pm EST in Orgrimmar (specific location TBD). Should you find yourself unable to attend in-game, there will be a livestream with running commentary, the details for where to watch will be released closer to the event.

Keelhaul is of course the driving force behind the event and it’s his hard work that is making this possible and his gold being kindly handed out, but nevertheless if you’d like to talk to us WoW Roleplay Gear folk we’ll be happy to chat, time permitting. However, it’s worth noting that as EU based players we have to attend the event on trial accounts and all of the restrictions that come with them. As such, we are unable to speak in /say and cannot whisper people unless they whisper us first. So, take note, if you want to chat to us, whisper us, we’ll be mute in general channels!
