Thorium Set

Thorium Set

Armor Type: Plate
Level Req.: 55 for Thorium pieces, 85 with extras
Source: Blacksmith crafted with BoP raid drop extras
Availability: Potentially time consuming to gather. Shoulders are extremely rare

How to get the set:
The Thorium items are all BoE Blacksmith crafted pieces, requiring 300+ skill, the recipes for which are random world drops. The recipes are not overly rare, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find a smith able to create the armor, or at least find the recipes on the Auction House.

As there are no gloves or shoulder pieces in the set, we have listed a couple of potential fillers below. The shoulders listed are admittedly very challenging to obtain, but they are at least food for thought!

Note: The headpiece for this set was left out for aesthetic reasons, but if you are interested, here is a link to it.

rofl, terrible example. Throw a bunch of easily obtainable things together, give people hope there’s actually an amazing looking old school craftable set out there that’s been redesigned, then throw hardmode firelands at them.

The article clearly states that the shoulders are not part of the thorium set, the items are listed seperately. When we put in other shoulderpieces it’s because there are no matching shoulders or the shoulders that are part of the set simply does not match. The article also states that the shoulders are really hard to get, we do not intend the stylish categories to be only easily obtainable sets (in fact, we show both really easy but also really hard sets). Just because an item is really hard to get does not mean we won’t show it here. Furthermore, items that are top tier now will become more accessible to more players as WoW moves on.
In the end, we are not here to tell people how they should match up their mogg set, but simply to provide inspiration and even though these shoulders are really hard, they are an excellent match. Finding shoulders that are easier to get and still okay in terms of looking good can be found by browsing this site more or other transmogg/roleplay gear sites for that matter.

When you show sets with difficult items to obtain, can you also show a very nice option that’s easier?

        • Ironyca says:

I try and find easier obtainable options whenever the suggested ones are too hard or too rare. There’s a few articles, this one being one of them, where I’ve gone through every possible shoulder piece and only a few of a comparable difficulty looked good enough to warrant a mention. This is why there are no easier suggestions here, I just couldn’t find any that I thought looked good enough.
The good news is, I did this in Modelviewer and it’s likely that there are shoulderpieces that work well within the game, but looks hidieous in Modelviewer, so this is where suggestions from other people become valuable as I don’t have the Thorium pieces, nor do I have a plate-wearer to put it on to test this out.

I just got Gordok’s Handguards( ) from a Dire Maul quest: Unfinished Gordok Business. They match very well and are easier to obtain than Commander’s Gauntlets.

No need to have an argument. There’s a nice pair of crafted shoulders that match–recipe available at the Mossy Pile in Un’goro Crater.

There’s yet another recolor of this set, with outland quest rewards and the runic plate BS recipes, but the runic chestpiece plans don’t seem to drop anymore. and are chest lookalikes for runic plate.

I don’t know how to post a link, but if you can get the ‘Fiery War Axe’, that would be good for a 2h axe, IMO. And for a cloak I found one called ‘Shroud of Frenzy’

Also, for Shoulders, I got the ‘Runic Plate Spaulders’. It was spaulders or pauldrons or something, I don’t remember.

I find easier to get shoulders: Ragesteel Shoulders
