Demon Hunter

Demon Hunter

Armor Type: Cloth & Leather
Level Req.: 85
Source: Dungeon drops, world BoE drops and rare elite drops
Availability: Good luck…

How to get the set:
This set is very challenging to complete, as it includes three of the most sought after items in the whole World of Warcraft. Pursuing this set will likely take substantial time and commitment, and due to the scarcity of some items and their desirability, this is a challenge for only the most patient of set collectors.

Demon hunters of both sexes are noted for wearing a minimum of clothing on the upper body, but in this circumstance we’ve equipped the female with a harness, a purchase from Horde vendors, which we deem more fitting that just a plain bra. For more information of demon hunter lore, check Wowpedia.

Two of the items, the bracers and belt, are uncommon BoE world drops, the former from level 17-22 creatures, the latter from 64-69 Outland mobs. Their drop rates are very low, but you may have some luck finding them if you regularly search the Auction House.

Dress shoes, a perennial favourite for roleplay sets, perhaps sounds a little posh for a demon hunter, but they fit the set well, as would any other dark shoes. They are crafted by tailors of 250+ skill and the recipe is widely available.

The legs are a drop from the beautiful but elusive Blazewing, a rare-spawn level 81 phoenix in Mount Hyjal. Fortunately, the drop rate on the pants is 100%, so if you do manage to find Blazewing, you’re guaranteed a reward. Alternatively, as the pants are BoE, you may find them on the Auction House, although no doubt at a high price.

So, we come to the toughest of the set, the blindfold and the dual glaives, all three of which drop from Illidan Stormrage, the very first demon hunter. Whilst the blindfold has a reasonably high drop rate, the two glaives have just a 4% chance each to drop when Illidan is killed. In order to pursue these items, you’ll most likely need to go with a small raid, even if level 85, as many of the encounters in Black Temple are still very tough, including the glaive-wielder himself.

At the very bottom of this article there is a section on alternative weapons, as the warglaives are obviously much tougher to acquire than the average roleplay item.

HeadCursed Vision of Sargeras (BoP from Illidan Stormrage in Black Temple)
WristsScouting Bracers (Random world BoE drop)
WaistUmbrafen Waistband (Random world BoE drop)
LegsBlazewing’s Furious Kilt (BoE from Blazewing in Mount Hyjal)
FeetDress Shoes (Crafted by Tailors of 250+ skill)
Main HandWarglaive of Azzinoth (BoP from Illidan Stormrage in Black Temple)
Off HandWarglaive of Azzinoth (BoP from Illidan Stormrage in Black Temple)

Female picture specific:
ChestBuckled Harness (Vendor purchase)

Alternative ‘Headpiece’:
Should the Cursed Vision be out of reach, or if you happen to be starting a fresh character, night elf males have an advantage over others when it comes to appropriate demon hunter appearance. One of the face options for them has the appearance of a blindfold, as can be seen below, a valuable alternative to the Illidan drop.

Alternative Weapons:
Should the glaives refuse to drop for you, here is a reasonable alternative:

One-Handed SwordBlade of Savagery (BoP from Mother Shahraz in Black Temple)
LegsKilt of Sewn Flesh (BoP from Meathook in normal Culling of Stratholme)

  1. It’s important to note that it’s possible to throw together a convincing demon hunter look for male night elves at mid levels (30-40’s). The above mentioned textured blindfold male face is a necessity, of course. And any kilt / skirt that matches whatever color scheme you’ve chosen will also work. An old “starting” favorite for the Netherbane is the Mystic Sarong, followed by Herod’s Shoulder, and some Outland-obtained gloves. A mask is good, too, since the blindfold-textured face is permanently angry and isn’t always a great look otherwise.

Linked below is a version of the basic uniform of the Netherbane guild on Earthen Ring US (http://www.netherbane.com). The core of it (mask, shoulder, kilt) is obtainable by around level 40-ish or so.

It’s also important to note that the warglaives that Illidan drops are rather specific to him. They used to belong to the Doomguard, Azzinoth, so they’re very iconic in design and they don’t quite match the warglaives that night elves (even non demon hunters) are known to use. While using them as generic glaives is definitely doable (because they’re the only player-attainable warglaives currently in the live game), their overly large size compared to what a demon hunter normally wields is a bit of a distraction. As such, picking any pair of savage-looking swords (or, in some cases, daggers) can suffice at lower levels.

I’ve been roleplaying a demon hunter for the past six years, so I’ve run through almost every possible combination of DH-styled RP gear that has existed up through 80, and am currently working on exploring the options toward 85. It’s a look with which I’m deeply familiar, and it’s something that a character can don long before they hit level cap.

Just wanted to say, even though rolling a DK to RP a Demon Hunter would probably be frowned upon by most, you can create a convincing-looking night elf demon hunter right off the bat with just the male blindfolded face and the DK-exclusive Acherus Knight’s gear. You also get access to the DK-exclusive hair colors, including black.

I’d also suggest going after a pair of Cross-Stiched Sandals, which are used by a few death knight NPCs in Cataclysm. They can commonly be found in Shellfish Traps in Desolace.

If you don’t mind hanging around Felwood a lot, you can also get temporary access to a blindfold as a quest item, though you can only wear it at Jadefire Run.

With Patch 4.3 it is possible to use the Legendary Dagger Set as Weapons. The Set give you Wings like Illidan ( seems that the Wings work like a Mount

  4. Shike says:

A friend of mine was showing me his demon hunter set and had two points about I thought I’d share: First, he had the Twinblades of the Hakkari, which both drop from Jindo in Zul’Gurub. The Daggers use an old sword model, and are vicious curved blades with a demonic glow that sheath on the back.

More importantly, he used the Boots from the Midsummer Fire Festival, which besides looking the part, have a use effect which sets your character on fire, a great addition for a demon hunter, since no class who can dual wield has their own fiery effects.

  5. Randomness says:

Why does he have a kilt? none of the Demon Hunter’s in WC3 had kilts, they had loose pants, tattoos, normal glaives not green ugly ones and a headband!!!

  6. Misha says:

    Greetings,

I have only the off-hand warglaive.
Any suggestion for a weapon to use as MainHand while the other Warglaive doesn’t drop?

  7. satsuri says:

    Hello!
I’m getting a demon hunter set put together for my assassination rogue. For weapons, Shard of Azzinoth is the best dagger I’ve seen so far. Anybody have other ideas?

In case “Sandrene’s Invisible Vest” (http://www.wowhead.com/item=59295) is t-moggable, I’d go for sonething like that. The chest would make the demonhunter suitable for raiding!

  9. Myloh says:

    It’s official…

Sandrene’s invisible vest (http://www.wowhead.com/item=59295) is NOT transmoggable, a crying shame for would be demon-hunters and shirt enthusiasts everywhere…

  10. bbr says:

    The Warglaives aren’t transmogrifyable either.

  13. arion says:

edit: nightelf/bloodelf famels CAN’T be a demon hunter. if u see in the game and the story, any demonhunter was a man.

  14. Pantherdraco says:

I just out of the blue decided to make a demon hunter look for my night elf druid. Happen to come across Blazewing for the kilt one night and decided to have some fun searching the ah for a neat look.
    Cursed Vision of Sargeras
    Pygmy Shoulders
    Nightshade Tunic
    Ethereal Terror Handwraps
    Aboraz Waistband
    Blazewing’s Furious Kilt
Boots i happen to have Molten blood footpads and they looked fine.
And for us staff/polearm users I suggest anything that looks like a scythe mine has the agi enchant so it has the green glow.

For a more “covered” look. I use this when Rping my N elf rogue. Hence the sword and dagger combo. Can also use both Shards or Both Fang of Twilight’s, Depending on the desire.

  17. Cherokee says:

Could you make a level 70 maximum set? If at all possible

  18. Kraosis says:

Hey there is a chest peice called invisible vest from a quest in hinderlands that you can transmog if you trully want this for a lvl 85 transmog….Yes it is leather

  19. Arcandor says:

    Hello,

I roleplay a night elf female hunter, which is a demon hunter. I was wondering, since I can’t equip the warglaives, what would be a good alternative?

  20. Rae says:

If Blazewing’s not showing up for you, the quest Wayward Child in The Stonecore has Leggings of the Lost Child as a possible reward, which appears to look the same as Blazewing’s Furious Kilt (based on screenshots, not personal experience, so take from this what you will).

  21. Flameater says:

I’m a big fan of demon hunter, is it possible to copy some of characters from this site: http://www.raptor13.com/characters/charTharion/character_Tharion.html
I tried copying some of them in Character Gallery but can’t find good recolors, HELP ME PLEASE!

    • Ironyca says:

Tharion Greyseer that you linked to is possible to replicate, in fact he posted here himself. Scroll to the bottom of the page.

  22. Uther says:

Hey. I really love this set but I’d like a similar, fully transmog set for my lvl70 rogue twink. Can u give me a good kilt and chest that are t-mog and for lvl 70 or under? Thanks

  23. Mill says:

I like the fist of the deity for a demon hunter but are there identical matches for it?

  24. Elrith says:

These sets are nice, i’d like to share my own demon hunter set I’ve been building the last 8 years.

After many different looks I’ve settled on this as my favorite.

I’m afraid that we don’t take submissions for new articles/sets, if that’s what you mean. We’ve also put a hold on image gallery submissions which you can find in some of our articles, due to increased workload. We’ll hopefully re-open that feature in future.

There are however two ways that you can share your outfits and images with others via the site right now.

Firstly, if you find your set is particularly relevant to one of our existing articles, you are always welcome to add a comment detailing your own work, along with some links to images hosted on f.ex. Imageshack or Photobucket. Secondly, quite a few people have opted to post their sets on our forums, which allows you to host your images on WoWRoleplayGear and get some feedback from others.
